When I was an undergraduate, I developed an idea that the most effective place that government worked was at the local level and law school really became an extension of that idea that the most direct and meaningful impact on people’s lives really comes through the court system. What I enjoy about the practice of law is dealing with complex, actual situations and applying the applicable case law to those situations to achieve a certain result for the client. Then when you’re able to resolve the matter successfully, it really drives it home when you see it have actual application in someone’s personal life. It’s intellectually challenging at the same time as personally satisfying knowing the reason why you’re doing it is to help an individual and their personal situation whatever that may be.
