Kaitlin Foley is a Managing Attorney at The Colwell Law Group, having joined the firm in August of 2016. Throughout her tenure with the firm Kaitlin has worked with hundreds of clients on matters including, but not limited to, complex divorce litigation, highly contested custody disputes, spousal maintenance and child support matters, and adoptions. She credits her background in psychology with her success knowing what type of approach is needed based on a client’s specific set of circumstances, and in helping navigate clients through these high stress times.
“Every client has a different hierarchy of needs, a specific set of goals and articulated areas of concern,” says Ms. Foley. “I find that getting to the bottom of what matters most to my clients to ensure they feel heard and represented, while contemporaneously advising on existing law, results in the best outcome.”
Kaitlin graduated cum laude from Albany Law School of Union University, located in Albany, New York. During her time at Albany Law School, Ms. Foley served as the Executive Editor of Research and Writing for Albany Law Review, was the Family Law Associate on the Moot Court Board and acted as a Teaching Assistant in Criminal Law. Ms. Foley is currently admitted to the New York State Bar and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Ms. Foley has been awarded the designation as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers in Upstate New York each year since 2019. No more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
Ms. Foley began building her legal career first in the New York State Office of the Attorney General, in the Health Care Bureau. While there she assisted claimants at every juncture of their complaint, seeking ultimately to obtain relief as it pertained to health care costs and insurance distributions. Following that, she served as a law clerk for the Honorable Randolph F. Treece of the Northern District of New York through Albany Law School’s externship program. During that time, she drafted decisions of law, conducted legal research, and assisted in the decision revision process. Ms. Foley’s most notable legal position, prior to her arrival at The Colwell Law Group, however, was with a matrimonial and family law firm, as that was where she discovered her interest in the Matrimonial and Family Law. During the course of that position her responsibilities ran the gamut, ranging from legal research, document review and drafting to attending court appearances and conferences with her supervising attorney.
Prior to attending Albany Law School, Ms. Foley received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from The University at Albany, SUNY in 2012.
