An adoptive parent and provider of therapeutic foster care from West Seneca have been honored with a prestigious national award for her contribution to her community. The woman, who is raising two adoptive daughters, whom she began taking care of through the state foster care program, became an advocate of adoption after seeing that there were many children in her community who needed homes.
Her daughters, ages 6 and 9, now enjoy a loving home that wouldn’t be possible unless their award-winning mother had opened up her home to them. Both of her daughters have special needs and their adoptive parent takes care of them as a single mother. One of the girls, the woman was told before she moved in, would never be able to speak.
Last week, the woman and her daughters made an important trip to Washington, D.C., to receive the highly regarded angels in adoption award provided by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Other recipients of the angels in adoption award in the past have included former First Lady Laura Bush, Muhammad Ali and Al Roker. The mother said that the event was spectacular and she was inspired by meeting people from different parts of the United States who shared their adoption stories with her.
